Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic technique that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidermis - the outer layer(s) of skin. It is a non-invasive procedure and is performed in-office by our highly trained LalliCare Clinic professional.
Microdermabrasion is not to be confused with dermabrasion. Although the mechanism of the two procedures is similar, the difference in the depth of the abrasion results in different recovery times.
Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion is a quick, safe, effective form of exfoliation for all skin types and colours with no downtime and no pain or discomfort. It has been available in Europe since the late 1980's and has been in use in Canada since 1999. At the LalliCare Clinic Skin Care and Hair Removal Centre, a diamond-tipped applicator with a slight suction to remove dead or damaged skin cells is used by a highly skilled skin care professional. Skin will appear softer, smoother, brighter, clearer, fresher and younger looking.
After microdermabrasion, skin will be much more sensitive to sun exposure. It is best to keep out of the sun and wear sunscreen at all times after the procedure.
Microdermabrasion may be performed to decrease the appearance of superficial hyperpigmentation, and photo-damage, as well as diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow acne scars. Removing the dead skin will aid in the penetration of skin care products by up to 50% and make-up will go on much more smoothly.
